Shoulder pain can be very debilitating, whether it be caused by sitting too long, computer work or stress. Most clients we see with shoulder pain are experiencing pain due to the muscles around the shoulder being too tight. Treatment typically consists of relaxing the muscles around the shoulder, shoulder blade, mid-back and neck, as well as stretching and mobilizing the shoulder joint itself.

Some of our clients have a condition known as "Frozen shoulder". In these cases the shoulder is not frozen, but rather the shoulder joint capsule (the bag around the shoulder that contains the fluid that lubricates the joint) has become inflammed. This means that nearly all movements of the shoulder can be very painful, and so the client stops moving their shoulder, as though it is frozen. Frozen shoulder, or adhesive capsulitis, is challenge to any healthcare practitioner attempting treatment as different clients appear to respond to different forms of treatment. Our Osteopaths recommend that a client who is suspected of having a frozen shoulder should have a short course of osteopathic treatment and then are assessed to see if treatment is actively helping their symptoms.
